Yamaha has revealed the 2026 YZF-R7, marking the first major update to the entry-level supersport since its 2022 debut. While the 689cc CP2 parallel-twin engine retains its core architecture, delivering 72.4 horsepower at 8,750 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, the 2026 model introduces significant refinements in electronics, chassis, styling, and ergonomics. The standout enhancement is the adoption of Yamaha’s Y-CCT ride-by-wire throttle system, enabling smoother and more precise throttle response. The R7 now boasts a full suite of advanced rider aids, including a six-axis IMU providing cornering traction control, slide control, wheelie mitigation, and cornering ABS.
Riders can customize their experience with three power modes—Sport, Street, Rain—plus four track modes and one fully customizable mode through the Yamaha Ride Control app. The gearbox now includes Yamaha’s third-generation quick shifter, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts with improved smoothness and precision. Engine Brake Management and Back Slip Regulator systems further refine deceleration dynamics, making the bike more manageable during aggressive riding. Chassis updates include a reworked steel frame for optimized rigidity without adding weight and a new swingarm for better feedback and stability.
Suspension is powered by a fully adjustable 41mm KYB fork featuring lightweight aluminum pistons, paired with a linked-type rear shock, enhancing agility and comfort. Ergonomically, redesigned handlebars sit slightly higher and closer, and a reshaped seat with reduced height improves rider comfort and control. A new 5-inch full-colour TFT display replaces the previous LCD, offering multiple themes, a dedicated Track mode with lap timer, and smartphone connectivity through Yamaha’s MyRide app for call, message, and navigation notifications. Additional rider conveniences include cruise control, speed limiter, auto-cancelling indicators, and emergency stop signals.
With these upgrades, Yamaha's 2026 R7 offers a refined blend of performance, technology, and rider comfort, solidifying its position as a top choice for riders seeking a high-tech, agile supersport motorcycle.
