KTM 490cc Twin-Cylinder Duke & Adventure Bikes Spied on Test Runs

KTM seems to be gearing up for an exciting new chapter as test mules of twin-cylinder Duke and Adventure motorcycles have been spied on international roads, sparking fresh speculation about the long-awaited 490cc platform. The Austrian motorcycle giant, known for its sharp design language and high-performance machines, appears to be expanding its mid-capacity lineup to attract riders seeking more power and versatility without stepping into the larger, more expensive 790/890 range. A Closer Look at the Test Mules Spy shots reveal a naked streetfighter resembling a new-generation KTM Duke alongside an adventure-oriented machine that seems to borrow design cues from the KTM Adventure family. Both bikes are reportedly based on an all-new twin-cylinder engine, expected to displace around 490cc.

This powerplant is said to have been co-developed with CFMoto in China, aiming to deliver smoother performance and improved refinement compared to KTM’s existing single-cylinder range. What to Expect from the 490cc Platform The upcoming 490cc engine is likely to produce power figures in the range of 45–50 bhp, putting it in direct competition with popular models such as the Kawasaki Z500, Honda CB500X, and the upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. KTM’s focus will likely be on maintaining its signature sharp handling, aggressive styling, and premium hardware such as upside-down forks, lightweight chassis, and advanced electronics. Expanding Options for Riders The Duke 490 is expected to target performance enthusiasts looking for an upgrade from the KTM 390 Duke, while the Adventure 490 will cater to touring and off-road lovers seeking a balance of power, comfort, and practicality.

If launched in India, these motorcycles could play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between KTM’s 390 range and its higher-capacity offerings. Anticipation Builds While KTM has not yet officially confirmed the launch timeline, the sighting of test prototypes strongly indicates that the new twin-cylinder bikes are inching closer to production. Enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for more details, as the 490cc platform could redefine KTM’s mid-segment offerings and further intensify competition in the growing global mid-capacity motorcycle market.
