MV Agusta Reveals Groundbreaking 5-Cylinder Engine: What To Expect Next

MV Agusta has stunned the motorcycle world by unveiling a revolutionary 5-cylinder engine concept at EICMA 2025, marking a new era for the iconic Italian brand. This new engine, designed at the company’s headquarters in Schiranna, Italy, is engineered to deliver exceptional performance with a unique blend of heritage and innovation. The 5-cylinder "quadrato" engine is a modular platform with displacement options ranging from 850 cc to 1150 cc. MV Agusta claims that, in its most powerful form, this engine will produce over 240 horsepower at more than 16,000 rpm and up to 135 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm—all while maintaining a svelte weight under 60 kilograms.
Key features include advanced electrification, with both electric water and oil pumps, making for efficient cooling and lubrication. What sets this engine apart is its unusual crankshaft layout: a three-cylinder crankshaft at the front and a two-cylinder rear "U" configuration. This design delivers remarkable smoothness, dynamic balance, and a distinctive sound signature. The compact dimensions mean the engine is narrower than a typical inline-four and shorter than a V4, giving designers new freedom when developing future motorcycles.
MV Agusta intends to use the 5-cylinder engine across various models, including supersport, naked, and touring bikes. The platform’s debut is reportedly planned for a highly anticipated model that hasn’t been in the lineup for some time, building excitement among enthusiasts for what’s to come. The new 5-cylinder engine reflects MV Agusta’s commitment to innovation, Italian design, and raising the bar for high-performance motorcycles worldwide.
