Suzuki Katana Discontinued in India After Lukewarm Response from Buyers

Suzuki Motorcycle India has officially discontinued the Katana, removing the model from its website and directing dealers to halt further bookings. The decision brings an end to the Katana’s short-lived run in the Indian market after its launch in 2022 at a price of ₹13.6 lakh (ex-showroom). Market Response and Reasons Despite solid performance credentials and heritage-inspired styling, the Katana struggled to gain significant market traction among Indian buyers. Feedback suggests that the model’s retro 1980s looks and relatively compact road presence didn’t resonate with local consumers, who generally prefer bigger, more imposing motorcycles.

Features and Performance The Suzuki Katana was powered by a BS6-compliant, 999cc inline four-cylinder engine producing 150 bhp at 11,000 rpm and 106 Nm of peak torque at 9,250 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The bike also boasted modern features such as full-LED lighting, an LCD instrument cluster, five-level traction control, three ride modes, low RPM assist, and the Easy Start System. Conclusion It’s unusual for Suzuki to discontinue a large-capacity motorcycle in India, but lackluster sales made it clear that the Katana was not aligned with the demands of the local market. Suzuki has thus made the rare decision to pull the plug on the Katana, ending its sales and bookings across the country.
