Yamaha has ushered in a new era in MotoGP by unveiling its highly anticipated V4-powered YZR-M1, marking a major shift from its legendary inline-four engine configuration. The new prototype made its global debut at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli and will hit the track this weekend in the San Marino Grand Prix. This decisive move aims to address Yamaha’s recent struggles with straight-line speed and competitiveness, as the team had stretched its inline-four layout to its limits. Test rider Augusto Fernández will pilot the V4 machine as a wild card entry in Misano, while factory riders Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins are scheduled to test the new bike during the post-race session.
The bike’s introduction signifies a complete redesign and departure from a chapter that brought Yamaha multiple world titles but saw diminishing returns against rivals in the last few years. Yamaha expressed deep gratitude to its loyal fan base for their support through these development years and hopes the V4-powered YZR-M1 will restore its competitive edge on the world stage, reinvigorating the pursuit of MotoGP glory for its star riders.
